Because if you would educate yourself, you would find that it is believed they very much enjoy the human contact. They initiate this contact by coming to the boats, because they know people are on them that touch them.

I'm sure you understand that a "friendly" whale likes people. Besides, the diet of Gray Whales is small shrimp, krill, squid, and octopus, along with plankton and mollusks. People kill whales. Whales do not kill people.
