in most cases the animal doest know how to survive in the wild eg hunt, get food, protect itself, as they have lost those skills through being hand raised. The only time where i see zoos/aquariums as beeing 'good' s when they breed up numbers of near extinct animals and release them back into the wild.

she should never have been cought how would it feel if one of your family was taken would they forget how to live no you never do they the orkas are makeing the best of this situatin we are just trying to comfort ourselves by saying well they wont make it in the wild so its all good

Yeah, they should stop collecting them off the ocean- That's a bad excuse for 'preservation' if its all going for money. I just hope there will be enough wild ones to keep the balance of the oceans- until then, I hope people don't take advantage of these guys

I'm not saying captivity is a good thing, really, but there are some consequences if they were freed- fish shortages in the sea + not knowing where most fish gathers in migration may affect them. There are also dangerous chemicals out there in the ocean because of us that they are unfamiliar of. But think about it, would SeaWorld really let them go after all this money they've been getting? I would have never seen the beauty of Orcas up close (not the tricks) if they weren't in captivity

but they get trained to fish by them selves... like theyve been trained to do tricks!! these whale 'babies' will never see freedom and nature.. or learn how to catch fish.. how can captivity be a good thing?

Katina is my favorite orca. I've been going to see her since I was a little girl.

Well, yes there is much to love in orcas, they are loving expressive creatures. but who ever cares about a pet salmon. Can anyone ever hug one or show affection to a salmon? Don't they have any virtues we can admire besides how they taste?

Continued...and together, I believe they would work it out. however the risk, would be very high, If it was my decision I would not be confident in releasing any broken animal into the wild. So I think the best solution, would be to convert places like Seaworld into Sancturies, for injured and orfaned mammals, they should not be trained to perform and they should not breed unless they are to be released with thier wild mother, Sea world should be a Marine Mammal rescue centre not a circus.

I think you are right ShamuKid, but I think it may be possible that they would survive if release as a pod, they are pack hunters and communicate well,

I believe that the Seaworld staff feel that they love the Orcas, but they are as brainwashed like the Orcas. Physically the Orcas need the sea, but mentally they are broken, this would happen to any wild animal in captivity,Orcas are clever, but not clever enough to get recentful or angry about their situation. and the public delusion is reinforced by this 'Yankee doodle dandy, have a nice day Mr Orca' attitude. People need to be smarter and stop being taken in by this bullshit. It is so cruel.

In the wild they travel 50-100 miles in a single day, They are one of the fastest swimmers at around 30mph, they usually dive to about 200ft but sometimes 500ft Killer whales have no natural predators tendency to live and hunt in groups, they are pack animals with complex social interactions .These pods are close-knit from one generation to the next and can form up to 40 individuals. there life span is up to 80yrs for the females, CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHY YOU THINK SEAWORLD IS NOT CRUEL?
